Mattia Massaiu (1994) is an Italian photographer currently based in Porto, Portugal.
Born and raised on the island of Sant’Antioco, in Sardinia, he began photographing during a long period of travel, when observing and documenting became a way to connect with the world. He later studied Photography between Escuela de Arte de Murcia in Spain and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, developing his visual language while exploring different approaches.
Working across different regions and cultures, his practice moves between documentary and artistic fields, focusing on how people, places, and traditions shape one another. Over time, his work has evolved toward more reflective narratives, often touching on themes of belonging, identity, and transformation.
His work has been shown in Istanbul and Paris, with a solo exhibition in Porto and through self-published photozines.
He has been shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards 2026
and has received an Honorable Mention at the
Black and White International Photography Awards 2025
